Chhatrapati Sambhaji Bhosale, the ruler of Maratha Empire. He ruled as the second Chhatrapati for nine years from 1681 to 1689.
After the death of Chhatrapati Shivaji in April 1680, there were several attempts to crown Sambhaji’s half-brother Rajaram as the king. Sambhaji took possession of the forts at Panhala and Raigad.
During 1681 to 1689, Sambhaji Maharaj participated in several wars. The wars including Siddi of Janjira, Wadiyars of Mysore, and the Portuguese Empire.
Sambhaji Maharaj lived as a political hostage with Raja Jai Singh of Amber at the age og 9.
By 1685 Sambhaji Maharaj faced a downfall when Mughals ruthlessly tried to take over his strongholds.
Sambhaji was kidnapped by Aurangzeb and was tortured to death for not converting to Islam. He was executed on March 11, 1689.
Sambhaji Maharaj is also known as "Chhaava", because in Marathi Chhaava means brave which truly defines him.
